Before starting at Running Deer I had never really felt any closeness or connection to horses. My daughter had riding lessons with a friend who had horses and probably about 5 years ago, I developed an interest in learning to ride though I never did anything about it.
Moving our horses to their new home proved to be challenging but the boys are finally in their winter quarters and permanent new home. Of course we chose the wettest, windiest day in which to do this. But moving them requires people and vehicles, and a coordinated approach because we walked them the 5 miles, rather than transporting them in the trailer.
Working outside can be a real challenge sometimes beginning with considering what to wear and how many extra layers to pack in my rucksack, waterproofs and walking boots are a must whatever the forecast as Dartmoor seems to have its own weather system and the terrain can be difficult.
I don’t think I am alone in thinking Autumn is a special time of year, two of my favourite occurrences happen in this season; Halloween and the woodlands revealing their true colours. We work in an environment dominated by trees, from springs vibrant greens through the long, dry summer holding their hue.
