Leaving the internet behind, Running Deer CIC

Running Deer CIC offer both students and staff a time of freedom, away from the virtual world of the internet.

Our challenge as Case Workers and Teachers, is to encourage young people to spend time away from their smartphones, social media apps, and gaming. 83% of 12-15 year olds have a smartphone, and Butterdon Wood offers this solace away.

Leaving the internet behind

As both a Father and a Case Worker the dangers of the internet terrify me, however through training and awareness we can support, and look for the signs of some of these potential dangers.

Working with vulnerable children, the importance of safeguarding is paramount, and trying to understand the various apps, and social media platforms is not easy.

The internet is utilised of course in a positive way by the students at Running Deer, and is vital within current project based work, opening up fantastic educational resources for these students, to thrive and to develop.

NSPCC

NSPCC lead the way with appropriate material and resources! In particular their training programme keeping children safe online and the PANTS guides for parents and children are vital in assisting in preventing abuse.
